This ridiculously pretty short film by Michel Ocelot (a pseudonym as his real name is unknown) was completed in 1979. 'Since at least the 1960s, prettiness in animation has been associated with conformity, with the Disney tradition, while to be considered individualistic, one has to be grotesque.' Ocelot's films 'Les Trois Inventeurs' and 'Azur et Asmar' belong to another, much rarer tradition, which includes Lotte Reiniger, Jiří Trnka and Be-PaPas and of course are so so achingly beautiful.
Fact: In 2007, he gained some further recognition within the English-speaking world by directing a music video for the Icelandic musician Björk, the lead single from her album Volta.
